“I was scuba diving in North Carolina, and one on my contacts fell out,” he recalled. “I was 80 feet under water with my scuba gear and one contact lens.” Realizing this incident could have affected much more than just his vacation, he scheduled a consultation with LasikPlus as soon as he returned home.
George had been wearing prescription eyewear for more than 20 years before he got LASIK. Although glasses and contacts didn’t prevent him from enjoying an active lifestyle, or working in the field of loss prevention, they made those activities more challenging and less comfortable. For example, he could see shoplifters on a store’s cameras, but he wasn’t able to clearly make out every detail.
Plus, George was replacing his prescription eyewear on an almost annual basis. After considering the convenience and savings LASIK could provide, he decided to look into the procedure further.
A friend recommended George visit LasikPlus for a consultation. Once there, George was impressed by the staff’s clinical approach. “The credibility was there,” he said. The doctor and staff seemed more concerned with treating George as a patient rather than a potential sale. They thoroughly examined his eyes, made sure he was a good candidate for LASIK and answered all of his questions.
George described the procedure as “surprisingly painless and quick.” Although he experienced sensitivity to light, dry eyes and nighttime halos, those side effects were manageable and temporary.
Thanks to his 20/20 vision, George can work and play easier than ever before. He said LASIK allows him to see with more “brightness and clarity” than glasses or contacts ever provided. He remembers watching one of his daughter’s soccer games after the procedure and being amazed that he could see the expression on her face when she scored a goal and looked out at the crowd.
LASIK also helped George with his family and work responsibilities. His second child was born shortly after George had the procedure, and he was able to be more responsive to the baby’s needs, especially at night. On the job, he could see in greater detail, which made it easier to track shoplifters and make presentations to groups of colleagues.
“I can’t say enough good things about it,” George said of his LasikPlus experience. Although he said it is a serious decision that affects patients’ lives, he advises anyone wearing glasses or contacts to at least consider laser vision correction. “I’m a huge advocate of the process. Anyone who asks me about it gets an eight-minute dissertation on the subject.”
While George has enjoyed 20/20 vision — and a happier life — since receiving LASIK, it’s important to remember that each person’s eyes are different, and individual results will vary. Consult with a qualified LASIK specialist to see if the procedure is right for you.
