Robert Smith M.D. is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. Smith received his medical degree in ophthalmology from the University of Michigan Medical School and completed a residency at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center. He went on to complete a Cornea and Refractive Surgery Fellowship at Emory University. Dr. Smith joined LasikPlus in 2006 and has performed over 88,000 procedures.
Dr. Smith served 20 years in the USAF and retired as Colonel. In the service, he started the USAF Refractive Surgery Program, and as the Medical Director, he performed the first refractive surgeries on fighter pilots in the Air Force, leading to him being locally known as the “Top Gun Surgeon”. Because of his experience and expertise, he was selected as the first USAF Surgeon General Refractive Surgery Consultant. His qualifications place him among the top LASIK and refractive surgeons in the United States as recognized by Trusted LASIK Surgeons.
As a National Trainer, he trains and certifies other surgeons to perform refractive surgery.
Dr. Smith loves all sports, especially golf and tennis. He also loves spending time away from the office with his wife and 4 children.

I was very nervous about getting my vision corrected with Lasik because we only get one set of eyes. The staff at Lasik+ made me feel comfortable. Dr. Vu explained everything and answered all my questions over and over. Maria and the front desk ladies were very nice. Cassandra also helped to ease my fears because of her positive experience. I highly recommend this practice if anyone is considering getting Lasik.

I’ve been wearing glasses since I was a kid and contacts for 20 years. I was EXTREMELY nervous to get LASIK done, however I knew I needed it because I slept in my contacts and didn’t change them as often as I should have. My vision was pretty bad (approximately -7 in both eyes with astigmatism) and post op I can confidently say this is the best investment in my vision/health I could have ever made. Pros: consultation was easy to schedule and was quick. Once I was approved for LASIK I was able to schedule an appointment to have surgery the next day. My appointment was quick and the procedure was painless, for the most part. Recovery has been simple and smooth and my vision is great! Cons: there was a slight discomfort during the procedure with the device used to keep your eye open, not painful per se just a bit uncomfortable. The post op burning and discomfort is the most challenging. They gave me Tylenol PM to take right before the surgery to help me sleep post op, however, I didn’t feel like it kicked in soon enough. The pain was bearable and did not require me to take pain reliever medication. Would highly recommend LASIKPlus to anyone on the fence or considering.
An amazing place for your eye lasik, my wife and I got ours done here and couldn’t happier, we both now having the 20/20 vision. Thanks to the staff, eye doctors, and surgery doctors for being very helpful and awesome!
