Dr. Gerald Horn's Bio and Credentials
Dr. Gerald Horn, M.D. is a laser vision specialist and is one of the pioneers in the field, having dedicated the majority of his career full-time to laser vision surgery, and trained in procedures that evolved into LASIK. Dr. Horn received his undergraduate degree from Northwestern University and his medical degree in ophthalmology from the University of Illinois Medical School. He completed an internship at Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke’s Hospital and went on to complete several mini-fellowships on LASIK, radial keratotomy, ALK, and epikeratophakia. Dr. Horn is a fellow of and board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He joined LasikPlus full-time in 1997 and has performed over 119,000 laser correction surgeries during that time. Dr. Horn is an emeritus member of the company’s Medical Advisory Board and continues to evolve and contribute best practices for achieving clinical and operational excellence as the medical director of LasikPlus Chicago.
Dr. Horn is proud to work with the outstanding team of doctors and staff at the LasikPlus team in Chicago who use their experience and sophisticated technology, particularly specialized, painless corneal scans of the front of the eye to identify and treat great candidates, the critical starting point to great outcomes. The procedure is then customized based on each patient’s individual needs and dataset to select from the two industry-leading wave-driven laser platforms. Offering patients 2 laser platforms is a rare, as most providers are limited to only one laser platform, and is a benefit that allows Dr. Horn and his team to provide patients optimized correction across the cornea based on their vision correction needs.
Dr. Horn’s other interests include ophthalmic drug development, with many issued and pending patents. He is also the inventor of new drugs, including “Lumify”, an extended use eye whitener, and “Liquid Vision”, a drop currently un FDA trials designed to temporarily after application, restore reading vision. He also enjoys tennis, skiing, and the pursuit of fitness; and particularly enjoys studying attributes of societies that have achieved longevity with very little of the diseases afflicting western cultures. He was born in Rochester, N.Y., but has lived in Chicago most of his life. He and his wife of 29 years have three children, now young adults.
