"Four-eyed freckle face...buck teeth boogie face - these were the taunts exchanged by me and my best childhood friend Betty. She got braces when we were 12, but it would be nearly 40 years before I would shed the second pair of eyes perched on my nose since learning I had inherited my mother's myopic gene. How wonderful it would have been to see the beautiful faces of my children as soon as they were born? Instead I saw blobs - on second thought, maybe that was a blessing. There was no hard sell here; I did not feel pressured to make a decision. Within a week I returned for the procedure. My husband was fascinated by the live broadcast of the procedures that were being done one after the other. I would say that it is never too late, and all of your fears and concerns can be overcome and allayed. I take pleasure in the little things like no more hunting for glasses or schlepping contact lens supplies everywhere. I can fall asleep without busting the arm from my glasses or gluing my eyes shut. I can drive with my windows down and no fear of debris becoming painfully lodged between my contact lens and eyeball. I can see what time it is and the caller ID without getting out of bed.
