"After receiving numerous presents from my husband that fell into the kitchen or general use category, I finally said Honey, I want to have lasik surgery and it will count for all gift giving occasions for the 24 months it takes to pay the bill. At the time, 0% financing was being offered and we were due to an eye exam and probably new glasses as well since it had been 5 years. I had just begun college (again) to complete my elementary education degree and hoped to improve my enjoyment of life through ridding myself of glasses. With my 4 year old daughter in tow, we headed to the Lasik+ center in Raleigh, NC for the free initial exam which found me to be an approved candidate for the procedure. I made my surgery appointment to which my husband escorted me at which time he underwent his free initial exam; scheduled his surgery for the next month; and took me to lunch on our way home with my lovely post-surgery glasses on. After a few hours home, I noticed how much our plants had grown since the day before. Of course, this was because I no longer wore corrective lenses which can distort images. My children looked healthier as well. It has been 5 years now and I have no regrets just thanks. I can play with my kids in the pool and ocean without worries of losing track of them in the water-marked glasses. I can wear sunglasses of various shapes and prices. I can wake up in the morning and see a clock and my children, immediately. I can ride roller coasters even in the rain and see the whole time. Post surgery motto - ?I can!"

"The process of getting the procedure done scared me! The doctor was so reassuring, she made me very comfortable though, and everything went well. After getting lasik, the next morning I looked at the alarm clock and guess what? I could see what time it was! "Since my fifth birthday, glasses and contacts became a very inconvenient part of my life. Glasses were uncomfortable and unsafe which limited the physical activities I was involved in. After dozens of repairs and replacements, they also became very expensive. Early in college, contacts seemed like a convenient alternative until I quickly realized they irritated my eyes. They simply were not adequate for keeping up with the countless hours spent reading and studying. When I decided to study and pursue a career in microbiology, I discovered contact lenses pose a serious health and safety threat when working in research laboratories.
