The Steps of LASIK Treatment
While you may be at the vision center for up to two hours on your day of treatment, the actual LASIK surgery takes between 5 and 10 minutes for each eye — in fact, the laser is only used between 15 seconds and two minutes per eye depending on your prescription.
The entire surgery involves four simple steps:
1. The eyes are numbed with anesthetic drops.
2. In the All-Laser LASIK surgery used at LasikPlus, a highly sophisticated laser is used to precisely separate a thin, hinged layer — or flap — in the anterior part of the cornea.
3. A second, computer-guided Excimer laser is then used to deliver cool pulses of ultraviolet light to reshape your cornea. Each pulse of the laser evaporates only a small amount of corneal tissue — less than the thickness of a human hair.
4. The flap is replaced and begins the healing process naturally without stitches.
If you are like most LASIK patients, you will probably notice a significant, immediate improvement in your vision, which will continue to improve over the following days and weeks.
