Learn about Common Vision Problems
The most common vision problems that can be corrected through laser vision correction include nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. LASIK surgery can also be used to compensate for the age-related eye condition presbyopia with our Blended Vision Solution.
Learn more about these conditions:
- Nearsightedness (myopia): If you’re nearsighted, you can see things up close, but things far away appear blurry. Nearsightedness can be corrected by laser vision correction. In some cases, people with high degrees of myopia cannot see up close very well either.
- Farsightedness (hyperopia): If you’re farsighted, you can see objects far away better than those up close. Farsightedness can be corrected by laser vision correction. In some cases, people with high degrees of hyperopia cannot see distances very well either.
- Astigmatism: Astigmatism is a condition in which your eye, rather than being round, is shaped more like a football. If you have astigmatism, you have a distortion of vision that causes overall blurriness. You can have astigmatism in addition to being myopic or hyperopic. Laser vision correction can be used to correct astigmatism.
- Presbyopia: Presbyopia is an age-related vision problem that typically begins after age 40 and worsens with increasing age. As you age, your eye’s lens loses the elasticity it needs to focus on close-up objects and often reading glasses are needed.
